Okay, so it's been awhile

6/12/2008   Yes, I return, abashed, humble, feet dragging, gaze downturned. I haven't posted in, well, a long time. I've had 4 people whom I haven't been in touch with for ages contact me through this website in the past few weeks (even an old flame!) and so, I've been embarrassed into finally jotting a quick note.

Update on the writing: have one story in with OnSpec and they've been holding it for 5 months which, according to those "in the know" means it's being held for second reading (good news). My hopes are up although I know I shouldn't let them. OnSpec is one of the top Canadian magazines for sci/fi fantasy. No way they'd publish a newbie like me. Still I wait.

Got some fantastic feedback from Guy Gavriel Kay who agreed to read the first chapter of my novel (you may remember from a previous posting that we met at World Fantasy Conference in New York) Apparently I didn't make quite the fool of myself that I thought I had and we've become email chums. Fantastic mentor and a nice person. Anyways, I've decided to make Prophecy into a stand-alone. It was originally planned as the first book of a trilogy but how do I get excited about writing the second book when I haven't sold the first yet (of course this would involve sending it out but . . details, details, details) Not happening. So I'm busy re-working the ending and tightening down on the plot, pulling some threads that I thought I might use in the later books and streamlining. To make this what I want should take between 75-100 new pages. No sweat! But the difference is . .I'm excited about this change and will make the time to write.

I need to do more writing. My writing has been on hold too long now with "life stuff". Time to focus on what I love (other than my boys -- they always get the first piece of me).

There. So much for a "quick" note.

You go girl!! I am checking this web site on a regular basis to see what you're doing. Glad to know you're writing, I know it's been a source of creativity for you. Can I ever read something you have written? Are there any "canadianisms" in any of your writings? I'm smiling as ponder that last question.

I'm glad that Guy Kay gave you good advice! You deserve a break! And making your novel into a stand-alone volume sounds like good advice to me.

Hope to see you soon!
