Writer's Retreat
7/1/2007 Last weekend the hordes (well two) descended on Winnipeg from the breadth of Canada (Edmonton and London), nervously anticipating the worst (the words "blasted landscape" were actually used.) The Westerner (Eileen) has obviously stepped out of her home province and, while surprised at all we had to offer, was not shocked. The Easterner (as in Ryan) has led a sheltered life, often referring to provinces outside Ontario as "the Colonies" Considerable amounts of backtracking and exclamations of "wow, this is incredible" were heard, much to the satisfaction of myself.
It's hard not to be impressed with Victoria Beach. I think both of my fellow writers could easily be convinced to return as soon as is feasible which is grand from my perspective. Much work was accomplished -- pitches for novels, marketing ideas, strategies for the upcoming World Fantasy Convention, approaches for agents/editors, publishers, and critiquing of work. Most of our agenda was covered. And of course the requisite griping about breaking into the business and would we ever achieve publication. If one of us ever makes it, the party will be huge.
Fun was to be had as well. Hot tubbing, rum and cokes, long walks, good food, movies and talk, talk, talking until the wee hours of the morning. We somehow never seem to run out of things to say to each other. We are a great group together. I miss them already. Come back anytime you guys -- make it soon!
I'm going to try to add pictures to this blog. No monies have been promised or sent to stop me, so up they go. Not sure how to add more than one or how to put captions under them and somehow I don't think Ryan is going to be leaping all over himself to help me with this particular task. Go figure. Hee hee, she who wields the camera, wields the power! And SUCH power.

Add all the pictures of Ryan that you want! Just, please, leave me out of it! Comeon, fellow Westerner and all that! It was a great time, Bev. And I'm working on getting my own version of the veranda -- as soon as H finishes the TV room. (unfortunately, winter beats summer. We have to gear up for next year. You know how THAT is!)
